Speaker Biographies:

Plenary Speaker ~ Eleanor Clitheroe ~ Eleanor (Ellie) Clitheroe-Bell is President and CEO of Prison Fellowship Canada and acts as counsel with the law firm of Gauthier and Associates. Born in Montreal, Quebec, she obtained a Bachelor of Common Law (LL.B.) and a Master in Business Administration (MBA), University of Western Ontario in London, 1977, 1980, a Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.), McGill University, 1978 and a Master of Divinity (MDiv), Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, 2005. She is currently a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Theology, Wycliffe College, Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto. She was ordained on December 11, 2005 in the Anglican Church of Canada. She holds an Honourary Doctorate of Laws, Trinity Western University (LL D), 2004. She attends St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church in Oakville, Ontario as Assistant Curate.  She is Chancellor Emerita of University of Western Ontario and is a director of Canadian Friends of the Ecole Biblique, Opportunity International Canada, Sanctuary, Media Voice Generation and Canadian Green Power. She has sat on the Boards of Suncor, Inco, TD Canada Trust, Alcan and Dofasco.

Ms. Clitheroe was, from 1998 to 2002, Chief Executive Officer, President and a Director of Hydro One, the transmission and distribution system for electricity in Ontario. From 1993 to 1998, she was the CFO of Ontario Hydro and Managing Director, Corporate Services (Human Resources, IT and Administration), Retail, Research and International Operations. Between 1981 and 1989, she held a variety of positions with CIBC, including Vice President, Corporate Treasury. She served as Assistant and Deputy Minister of Finance with Province of Ontario, 1989 and 1993.

She was named National Post’s Top Business Woman of the Year (2002) and a Chatelaine Woman of Influence (2002).

Esther Abraham ~ Esther has practiced law since 1978, and in Canada since 1992. She presently practices law in Mississauga. Since 1992, she has practiced as a legal consultant in Canadian Law before the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Esther Abraham has a broad range of legal experience having practiced law in several jurisdictions.

Erin Carley ~ Erin is a prosecutor with the Federal Department of Justice, specializing in the prosecution of tax evasion offences.  She has spent most of her career working in the area of taxation.  Before joining the Department of Justice, Ms. Carley's experience included working as a lawyer with the law firm of McCarthy Tetrault in Toronto.  Ms. Carley is a Queen's Alumnus (B.A. in Mathematics, 1993), and attended law school at the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 1996 with a specialized law degree in taxation.  In 2001 she earned a Masters degree in Law (International Taxation) from the London School of Economics, England.  Ms. Carley is a member of the Ontario and Alberta Bars, and is listed on the Roll of Solicitors in England.

Rebecca Chan ~ Rebecca is a partner in the Borden Ladner Gervais Toronto office.  Ms. Chan was called to the Ontario Bar in 2000.  She completed a Bachelor of Laws degree at McGill University in 1998, graduating with distinction.  During her final term, she was an exchange student at the National University of Singapore.  Prior to that, Ms. Chan received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo in economics and international trade.  She is trilingual in English, French and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).  Rebecca is a corporate commercial lawyer involved in transactional and general business advisory work for various financial institutions, and public and private companies.  She has a specialized practice in regulatory matters including financial services, consumer protection, and privacy.

Teresa Douma ~ Teresa obtained a B.A. (Hons.) from University of Waterloo and LL.B. from University of Western Ontario graduating in 2001. She articled and worked as an associate at Miller Thomson LLP until becoming in house counsel for the Canadian Counsel of Christian Charities (CCCC) in 2004.  Her practice focuses on the various legal issues affecting charities and providing technical information and assistance to CCCC’s 2600 member charities across Canada..  Teresa is a member of the CBA , OBA’s Charity Law section executive, and of Christian Legal Fellowship.

Nancy Toran Harbin ~ Nancy is an attorney, entrepreneur and broadcaster, and founder of FACE ® (Family Abuse Crisis Exchange) www.face1.org which has assisted 68 communities internationally to establish initiatives for women and men entering or re-entering the work force. Currently a partner in gecko, Angelworks ® Productions, and Sleep & Snoring Institute, Toran Harbin is also a director of Angelworks Ministries. A former Vice Chair of the Film Review Board, Nancy has been a consultant to network TV regarding the development and implementation of programming codes. Toran Harbin also developed a program of public legal education for ethnic communities, and has served as a member of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee.  Nancy practices immigration and business law in Toronto.

Karen Henein ~ Karen graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1979, was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1981 and practiced as a litigation lawyer in downtown Toronto for 20 years.   She is married to a medical doctor and is the mother of  two teenagers who turn 16 and 18 this year.  Karen has served on various Christian boards, has participated in overseas missions and has travelled to 83 countries on 6 continents.  Since leaving her law practice two years ago, she has been involved with advocacy projects, executive outreach, facilitating Alpha groups, speaking, mentoring etc.  Karen is really excited about participating in this upcoming event with other professional Christian women.

Faithe Holder ~ Faithe attended Victoria College, University of Toronto, and was the recipient of the University of Toronto’s National Scholarship. Ms. Holder received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biomedical Ethics and Women’s Studies in 1997. In 2001, she received her LLB from Osgoode Hall and was called to the Ontario Bar in February 2002. Ms. Holder is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association.  Faithe is Legal Counsel at the Ontario Realty Corporation and her responsibilities include providing strategic legal advice and opinions, including advice and opinions regarding corporate policy, complex litigation management, and negotiating and drafting of various documents.

Arlene Minott ~ Arlene accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at 7 years old. At 18 yrs old, through the beautiful example and testimony of Pastors Zino and Maria Edukore, she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and has walked in His grace and love for over 20 years. Arlene is married to Bonneville Minott and after 14 years of marriage he remains the love of her life. They have two beautiful daughters Ariel 10 and Candace 5. Arlene has practiced law in both the public and private sectors for over 14 years. In 1998 she started the Minott Law Office in the City of Mississauga.  Her primary area of practice is Corporate/Commercial Law. Arlene’s passion is to help young women and teens make right choices today so they can live their dreams tomorrow. She also has a passion for Africa and in particular the children of Africa.

Valerie Hazlett Parker ~ Valerie graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. in 1987, and an LL.B. in 1990. Since her call to the Bar of Ontario in 1992, she has been practicing law in Oshawa. Her practice is restricted to Family Law, Estate Litigation and Employment Law including Human Rights issues. In the course of her Family Law practice, she also represents children in child protection and custody-access proceedings.  Valerie is an Accredited Family Mediator, with experience in domestic abuse mediations, and a Collaborative Family Lawyer.  In 2003 Valerie was appointed a Deputy Judge of the Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court.  Valerie has written articles and presented papers on a number of legal issues, including employment law, workplace harassment, family law and mediation.

Elizabeth Davis ~ Elizabeth completed her legal degree from Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy (Fresno, California) and is on staff with CLF where she helps with conference planning, graphic design, strategic planning, tracking legal changes and producing both the monthly e-Newsletters and the CLF Journal.  She has lobbied at the United Nations and has a great interest in constitutional law and religious freedom advocacy. In her spare time she trains for duathlons and pursues advanced piano skills.

Ruth Ross ~ Ruth is the Executive Director of the Christian Legal Fellowship and a graduate of Dalhousie University Law School. Having been first called to the bar in 1975, she has practiced law in 4 provinces of Canada and is currently a member of the Ontario bar.  From 1996-2000, she resided with her family in Port Hedland, Western Australia, where she was active in ministry-related work with the Christian Revival Churches of Australia.  Ruth served on the CLF Executive Board of Directors from 1993 to 1996 and was appointed Executive Director in October 2000.  Ruth, her husband, Pat, a railroad consultant, and their family reside in London where they attend Glad Tidings Assembly.
