Christian Legal Institute

"I consider my time at the Christian Legal Institute to have been an intellectual revolution. It was as if a second half of my faith - my public mandate, to which I had been ignorant up to that point - was awakened, and I went back to law school with a new confidence both in my ability to challenge secular norms
and in the truths upon which I stand as a Christian."

- 2009 CLI Participant

The Christian Legal Institute (CLI) is a discipleship program designed to equip Christian law students and lawyers with the information and skills necessary to fully integrate their professional calling and their faith.

In May, participants from across the nation converge in London, Ontario to receive training, mentorship, practical experience and networking. Instructed in Biblical worldview, natural law, Canadian constitutional law, and leadership, participants graduate from the program able to articulate legal, practical, and spiritual arguments on a number of important issues.

Legal scholars from Canada and the United States present on topics such as ethics, constitutional law, worldview, and legal history. Local practitioners also provide guidance by sharing their insights on professionalism, faith, career opportunities and service. Beyond classroom instruction, the Institute educates its students through materials of scholarship written by highly respected lawyers, theologians, and academics.

Qualifying participants will receive complimentary accommodations, scheduled meals and training throughout the educational component of the program.

Upon finishing the educational component, interested students may be assigned a range of different projects designed to improve their legal and ministry skills, exposing them to legal research, writing, and strategy, as well as opportunities for legal ministry. As a result, students may have opportunity to move beyond training to develop the capacity to approach complex problems with confidence, perspective and discernment.

The Institute is designed primarily for those in law, however, a limited number of spaces will be reserved for qualifying participants in media, journalism, political science and related fields.
The Christian Legal Institute was launched in 2009 by an inaugural class of six student leaders from across Canada. The Institute hopes to expand in number, geographic representation and impact in the years to come.

Applications should be available in December for the upcoming institute.
