April 17, 2020 marked the 38th anniversary of the adoption of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter has had a tremendous impact on Canadian life since it was adopted, yet a number of its protections have yet to be fully considered or addressed by Canadian courts. Among the several "fundamental freedoms" guaranteed by section 2 of the Charter, only a few have been given significant attention. What about the others — why are they important to our democracy, and how might they be realized? And what do we still need to learn and understand about the meaning of our "fundamental freedoms" generally? In collaboration with The Forgotten Freedoms project, CLF presented a webinar exploring these questions and more.
